THE GREATEST TEST BATSMEN
A sneak preview of the new book by Jarrod Kimber ranking the best Test run-makers of all time.
Below is a video of me in conversation with the BBC broadcaster and co-podcast host Simon Mann discussing with Jarrod Kimber who are the top 50 Test run-makers in cricket history. Jarrod’s new book The Art of Batting is out later this week. The discussion ranges around who’s in, who’s not in, what the criteria were, how you compare batsmen from different eras, and why fabulous players like Graham Gooch, David Gower and Barry Richards didn’t make the top 50. Hope you enjoy the conversation.
This is actually an exclusive preview of Jarrod’s book in which we hear his arguments for inclusion (or exclusion) and challenge some of his selections. The actual final list of 50 is revealed in my next blog post. Subscriptions are free to The Cricverse, but it would help us massively if you considered a paid subscription. It could be as little as £3 a month. It would enable us to produce more insightful content from Test matches, county cricket and matches around the world and get you closer to the game than you’ve ever been. We will also hold administrators and governing bodies to account.
Paid subscribers will also get extra exclusive content - like the reveal of the top 50 list this week in advance of the book’s publication and special one-to-one interviews with big names. Paid subscribers will also get automatic entry to draws for tickets to international matches like the one we have just had for England v India tickets (winners announced in mid-week), and access to some forthcoming live shows and online events.
While both Derek Pringle and I have been lucky to have worked extensively for national newspapers and elsewhere, making a living from journalism is now extremely tough. We would be eternally grateful if you’d consider a paid subscription and it would represent a treasured recognition of our work. The Art of Batting can be pre-ordered by clicking this link.
