Totally agree. That’s where I first saw him

I recall Matthew Engel, who had covered the Northants of Larkins, writing in The Guardian ahead of the batter's Test debut that he suffered terribly from nerves before an innings. Have I misremembered?

Well I never noticed it at Durham but that was much later in his career

I remember as a kid in country Victoria, ABC radio covering a multi country cricket tournament in India called the Nehru Cup in 1989. The only thing I remember of the whole tournament was Wayne Larkins just destroying Australia in our first match. I knew he peeled off a ton and by checking Cricinfo today saw it was a brutal 124 at pretty much a run a ball.

That innings for some reason has always been in my cricket memory bank. I love the fact that bowlers referred to being “Nedded” when he was in full flight cause the Aussies were most definitely that day.

I have vivid recollections of the incident you recalled when standing at the other end to him in a Durham game whilst Ned took on David Milnes at the end of the day. Climaxing with him sauntering up to you after he had done his despatching with the immortal words "Piece of p*ss". - I think it was in The Cricketer?

Many thanks Simon. I clearly remember him on the Gooch led 1990-91 tour. I understand from Andrew Miller’s Cricinfo profile that Larkins roomed with Phil Tufnell on that tour! The mind boggles as to what would have happened - do you have any anecdotes on this please?!
